Case 5 Typhoon Maemi, Korea
The severest typhoon since records began 100 years ago struck Korea on 12 September 2003. This caused considerable damage to the port facilities and operators' equipment at a port and other neighbouring facilities. An incident response team was quickly assembled to comprising three elements:
- claims coordination from the Hong Kong regional office;
- the Club's crane expert from the UK, Loss Adjustors from Hong Kong/Singapore and one of the Hong Kong claims executives, who were on site within three days of the claim notification;
- the London office liaison with facultative and treaty insurers, coordination of potential ship operator container claims, specialist guidance and immediate response to press enquiries.
